There is something about Pain
Ps. 119:67 – “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word.”
Research tells us that in America people spend $1 of every $7 that they earned to ease some sort of physical pain. In conjunction with that, pain is also blamed for the lost of productivity in companies and also the top reason for people seek medical attention. On the other hand, pain is also effectively used to exert discipline both on adults and children. It’s like a double edge sword, where on one side it cuts us, yet it protects and heals us with the other. There is something about pain.
The great Christian writer, C.S. Lewis says that, ‘Pain is God’s megaphone’ – it directs our attention to a higher power above us – God. When there is no found cure, pain leaves us helpless. God, in His infinite and perfect wisdom, inflicts pain in our lives so that He, once again, can turn our eyes back to Him, the ultimate and powerful Healer.
God does not leave us with cuts; He also heals our cuts. God does not leave us broken; He also mends us back together. God does not leave us hang to dry; He also showers us with His living water once again. God wants us back, back to Him and to His Word.
Just like a parent who knows best for their children, with tears and compassion, God inflicts us with pain – just to have us so that we can have Him.
